An Equity-based Sliding Scale
Emotional wellness is a human right. All people should have access to straightforward support when they need it. People of color and LGBTQ people face biases when engaging in mental health support, which can create gaps in care. Those gaps become even deeper where race, gender and sexuality intersect with income disparity. My practice aims to reduce that gap, one person at a time.
My hourly rate is $175, and I ask that those who are able to pay that, please do so.
If you can't, you are no less deserving of support. If we are a good fit for each other, I ask you to please propose a fee. Below are guidelines based on the Equity Scale guidelines from EmbracingEquity.org; however they are only guidelines. I don't ask questions about your financial situation, and I don't require any proof of income.
If you are a person with savings, sick leave, and vacation pay, and you are able to provide for more than your basic needs, please remember that there are those in my practice who are unemployed or underemployed, rebuilding their lives after a period of instability, and for whom meeting the basic needs of life is a hardship. Those who can pay full fee make my practice mission possible.
This is not a replacement for systemic change, mental health parity with medical health, and health care reform. Until we can we make these systemic changes, this is how I enact social justice within my reach.
