Individuals who work with Maria are typically people who identify as women, and very often mothers or people wanting to become mothers. They are trying to build a family or are pregnant or are postpartum, and they are carrying worry, sadness, fear, or anger through the changes in their life that most people people assume are blissful. In fact, many people on the outside won't even know their struggles; there is a lot of invisibility to challenges that women experience, and so they experience these hardships alone. The people who see Maria are often layering culture, race, gender, sexual orientation, and belonging to these issues. Maria greets her clients with dignity, respect, and humility and builds a one on one relationship for as long as it is supportive.
Couples usually bring to Maria an issue that they would like to fix or improve. In the initial session, Maria assists the couple in determining their goals for the relationship, not only for resolving the issue but for how it could make way for further improvement in other aspects of their relationship. Then, after creating some agreements on how to proceed towards these goals, Maria will guide the couple through 6 sessions. The 6th session will be used to measure those goals and reassess how to move forward from there.
